Holes That Define the Round

The holes that every member and guest remembers long after the round is over.

Risk & Reward
No. 3

Risk & Reward

Par 4

A tempting short par 4 that invites bold play off the tee. Long hitters can take aim at the green, but a winding creek that guards the end of the fairway demands both confidence and precision. Lay back safely and you'll be rewarded with a manageable approach, or challenge the water and chase a possible eagle or tap-in birdie. It's a classic risk-reward hole that tests decision-making just as much as distance — and often sets the tone for the round ahead.

The Island
No. 5

The Island

Par 5 • Signature Hole

Lone Pine's signature par 5 and one of the most memorable holes on the course. Long hitters may be tempted to reach the island green in two, but the margin for error is razor thin — come up short or go long and the water is waiting. The hole is best played with patience and precision. An accurate tee shot sets up a smart layup, positioning the ball for a controlled approach. From there, a confident wedge shot is required to find the island green and set up a scoring opportunity.

The Par 5s

Four Scoring Opportunities

The par 5s at Lone Pine — holes 5, 8, 13, and 16 — present true scoring opportunities, as all four can be reached in two by long hitters. However, each demands precision and thoughtful decision-making. Miss the green on any of these holes and players are faced with a challenging up-and-down from difficult positions. While most greens at Lone Pine slope from back to front, the par 5 greens are designed differently, placing an even greater emphasis on distance control and approach accuracy. The course ultimately rewards players who lay up to the proper yardage, control the distance of their approach shots, and leave themselves an uphill putt rather than a treacherous downhill attempt.

Two-tiered greens at Lone Pine
Holes 15 & 17

Two-Tiered Greens

Precision Required

Holes 15 and 17 both feature two-tiered greens that challenge even the most skilled golfers to place their approach shots on the correct level. Success on these holes begins with a well-positioned tee shot, setting up the proper angle and distance into the green. When the pin is located on the front tier, players can use the natural backstop to their advantage. However, back-pin locations demand precise carry and distance control — come up short and you'll be left with a very challenging up-and-down from a lower tier. Thoughtful positioning and confident execution are rewarded, while missed shots quickly expose the difficulty of these demanding greens.
